Quilted wall hangings will be on display during the celebrations taking place for the closing of our current junior high on May 7-8. A silent auction for these quilts will be held during the celebration and the proceeds will be donated to the Middle School Library. This is a great way to support he school system and reduce that stash of fabrics!
The BG Schools Support Services Building has committed to three (3) quilted wall hangings to donate for this display and we are challenging each of the buildings in the school district— Central, Conneaut, Crim, Junior High, Kenwood, Milton, Ridge and the Senior High—to create and donate a wall hanging, too. Wall hangings should not exceed 40” on any side and the fabric may be either hand or machine quilted, embellished or not. It should be an interesting and fun educational display as almost everything can be related to education.
There are so many possibilities: a photo transfer of the current Junior High to fabric with a border, alphabet and/or numbers, schoolhouse(s), geometric designs (Geometry), plants (Earth Science), patriotic (American History), books (Library), school spirit (Bobcat, Paw Prints), musical notes (the theme of the evening is Leaving on a High Note, band, choir), clowns (all classes have a class clown), sports, diplomas…. Or, think outside the box as Laurene is with snowmen representing snow days —a favorite of many students! The makings of wall quilts are endless.
Laurene Hoskinson, former secretary to BG Junior High and Office of the Superintendent, is spearheading this project. She will need your donated quilted wall hanging by April 22. The wall hanging may be delivered to Sue Rider, BG Junior High building, Sharon
Stratmann, Bishop Road—bus garage (courier or any of the drivers will deliver them for you) or Laurene Hoskinson at 308 West Merry (afternoons or evenings). You may reach Laurene with any questions or to confirm your participation at (419) 352-7721 (afternoons or evenings) or you may confirm your participation with Sharon at sstratmann@bgcs.k12.oh.us. We are looking forward to a great “Journey Through Education” by way of the donated quilted wall hangings and your participation will make this a great success!
